MBFWA 2014 Runway Report: Dion Lee Line II and Bianca Spender

Dion Lee has definitely secured his place as one of Australia's renowned fashion designers in the industry, I think there was a collective woohoo! when his Line II runway show was finally added to the MBFWA schedule. A sleek collection that transcends from day to night, is both smart and casual, toes the line between masculine vs feminine and incorporates the perfect mix of collage/hybrid dressing. Full of structured tuxedo designs, streamlined silhouettes, precise layers, stripes, denim and that Dion Lee architectural construction that we've all come to desperately want. Cool cocktail styles and wearable everyday designs that has us seeing blue hues and pops of red.

Bianca Spender's offsite show was centered around a whimsical and Aussie artwork house from the Biennale exhibition, it couldn't be a more perfect place to debut her Universe Next Door collection. Born of fashion royalty, the daughter of Australia's fashion queen Carla Zampatti there was a touching post-show moment backstage between the proud mother and budding designer daughter. An invitation to look at the world differently and enter a dream space where strong corsets contrast against sheer flowing silks, dark shimmery patterns lead to lighter hues, sleek tailoring and elegant designs are offset by leather and the use of rope. It was a magical Spring 2014 runway that had us on the edge of our seat in fashion heaven.
